413 days later…

So, I was planning on posting a couple of lengthy blogs before leaving, however….  Life got in the way.  I had to finish enjoying this place.

I’ll post recaps of August, September and the wee bit of October I spent here at some point on my vacation.

I’m scheduled to depart in just over 12 hours.  That means I have 5 hours until I bag drag and 9 hours until transport time to Pegasus.  The sea ice isn’t strong enough to hold a C-17 this year…  I was worried about that when I was still seeing open water in July.

From here, I head to New Zealand, followed by Hawaii.

Then I’ll be back in Brunswick.

On a side note, I find it amusing that once I became tired of telling people back in Brunswick that I was excited to be going to Antarctica because, well, it’s ANTARCTICA, I (sarcastically) started telling them that I had dated all of the single guys in Brunswick and I needed to move on to new prospects…  I never thought I’d actually be bringing one back with me.

After 29 years of living in hot and humid south east Georgia, I decided to embark on a new adventure that led me to Antarctica. After 27 months of working on the Ice (not consistently, I had a four month break in between) I returned home and back to my old 911 center. After a year of restlessness, I embarked on another new adventure. I now live, work and play in the Cayman Islands as a 911 dispatcher. Fast forward three years! I'm headed back down to the ice!
